An Introduction To The Bulgarian Black Sea Coast
The Black Sea coast in Bulgaria is a wonderful holiday spot and offers everything almost any traveller could want. The Black Sea coast is becoming evermore popular with its pleasant beaches, quaint villages, bustling resorts and sightseeing opportunities and is commonly thought of as two separate areas; the northern coast and southern coast areas.
The northern Bulgarian coast offers many resorts near Varna, the biggest city on the Black Sea. The most popular of these include Varna itself, Golden Sands, Albena, Riviera, Rusalka, St. Constantine and Elena. There is plenty to see and do here near the coast and Varna has many attractions including museums, cathedrals, Roman ruins, good shopping and a maritime park. It also offers a perfect base location to take day trips to many of the nearby beach resorts.
Golden Sands offers a beautiful stretch of sandy beach just 18 km up the coast from Varna. It is a popular place to relax and enjoy the ocean with water sport activities or just by lounging on the beach. Near Varna is the expansive Riviera with its stunning beaches and bustling nightlife.
Albena has a more casual appeal and offers a beautiful, wide sandy beach that is almost 4km long. Water sports abound here including windsurfing, water-skiing, parasailing and jet skiing. Rusalka is less touristy yet offers nice beaches and relaxation. St. Constantine and Elena are both located very close to Varna. You can spend time on the beaches then head into Varna for some inland sightseeing.
The resorts of the southern Bulgarian coast offer slightly warmer temperatures than those of the north. Most of these resorts are near the city of Burgas, a large metropolitan city that offers much in the way of arts and entertainment. The most famous and largest of the resorts of the south is Sunny Beach. With its large bay lined by several kilometres of sandy beach it is a favourite destination for beach lovers. Sveti Vlas is a more private destination with fewer activities and along with that fewer tourists.
Nessebar is a popular holiday destination with plenty of activities and nightlife. South of Nessebar you’ll find a resort called Sozopol. This beautiful and historic town offers two main beaches that are wonderful places to enjoy the sea. There are many seaside cafes and restaurants where you can relax and enjoy a good meal. Primorsko is a smaller resort town with a long attractive beach that is ideal for swimming and boating.
Rental accommodations are available at many seaside locations and offer a number of pleasantries that will help to make your holiday special. There are apartments as well as homes that can be rented by the week or even by the night. The high season is considered July and August, when rates are the most expensive. Rental accommodations often offer private pools or spas, ocean views and are usually within close proximity to the beaches, shops and cafes. They often have excellent amenities including a private beach to allow for a more relaxed beach visit.
Conclusion
When looking for a beautiful and relaxing beach holiday try the interesting resorts of the Bulgarian Black Sea. The area has great beaches, wonderful dining and shopping as well as many attractions for sightseeing.
