Losing Weight? Enjoy A Cheat Day, Too!

If you are new to the permananet and healthy weight loss arena, be kind to yourself. Give yourself plenty of room to learn and assimilate new, healthier eating and exercise patterns. Relax in your approach and stay away from very rigid rules and behavior.

As a break, give yourself a "cheat day" every now and then. Eating a healthy and perfect diet 100% of the time for the first time in your lifecan actually backfire on you. For those avid fitness buffs a cheeseburger and fries passes their lips periodically. The same can and should be true for you.

According to Body for Life author, Bill Phillips, "It is also important that you over-feed the body a little bit once a week, it helps convince your body it's not starving and it hasn't hit a famine.

This is a critical point for us in the fitness and weight loss counseling industry. It's a fact brought down through our human evolution. Throughout time, our bodies have had to adapt to times when there was a lot of food and times when there wasn't enough. If your body feels that there is a food shortage, the fat will come off slower.

This is one main reason why crash and fad diets fail. Our bodies beleive they are being starved. Despite our best conscious efforts our mind and body begin to slow down. Metabolism slows down. Mentally starvation messages are sent out and next thing you know we are binging. The effects of doing this alot are magnified since our metablosim is slower. Thus, we gain all the weight back we lost and then some due to the slower metabolism we set.

So the Free Day, believe it or not, accelerates fat loss. This is the best kept secret of the body for
permananet and effective weight loss and good health. It is also the reason that so many people are able to stay committed to a healthy eating and fitness plan and achieve those amazing transformations we see in advertisements, books, websites and magazines.

To be clear, I'm not talking about gorging on the worst foods for an entire day but just indulging in something that you enjoy and have not been eating regularly since you started a healthy diet. Be sure that your cheat meal does not become a daily thing.
