The University of Richmond is a private, liberal arts university occupying 350 suburban acres on the western edge of the city of Richmond, Virginia. There is a 10 acre lake and the majority of buildings are a traditional Collegiate Gothic style built around open grass areas. The Princeton Review has repeatedly named The University of Richmond as one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation. Ninety percent of students live on campus throughout their time as undergraduates, so the university has a small, intimate feel that can be lacking in larger institutions.

2857 undergraduate students, 697 master's and professional students, and 855 continuing education students are distributed over 5 schools: the School of Arts and Sciences, the Robins School of Business, the Jepson School of Leadership Studies, Richmond School of Law and the School of Continuing Studies. 347 full-time faculty members result in a highly desirable 10:1 student faculty ration at the full time undergraduate division. Interestingly, only around 15 admittance rate (for the class of 2011) and offers a rigorous academic program including core requirements in subjects such as writing and foreign language. After completing the required core classes, students can choose from 55 majors, 42 minors, and 12 concentrations. They also have the option to participate in hands on research by taking research based courses, choosing an independent study, and working with faculty. The university also offers students the chance to study abroad. Seventy percent of students choose to take advantage of this option, selecting from 70 study abroad programs in 40 countries.

The University of Richmond is a nationally ranked university that blends the benefits of a small, liberal arts college, such as an intimate feel and a low student faculty ratio, with the academic, research, and cultural opportunities that are often found only in larger institutions.
