Superchips vs. Edge—Heavy-Weight Bout of the Century

Tonight’s title bout has larger-than-life written all over it. Not since the days of Ali and Frazier have we seen such an epic battle shape up. The perennial champion from the southeast, Superchips’ Maxx Micro Tuner stands undefeated in a sea mediocrity. However, the young up and comer from Utah, the Edge Evolution, is a salty fighter showing a lot of promise. Let’s see how these two compare in this 3-round bout for performance dominance on a late model Duramax.

Round 1: Horsepower
Right at the bell Superchips’ MAX Micro Tuner comes out swinging. It looks like the Edge Evolution came prepared though. He’s bobbing, weaving and really giving Superchips a run for his money. With 3 different power settings, I’m afraid the Edge has the advantage in this round. Superchips takes it on the chin from Edge’s level-one 30 horsepower gain. Then another right-cross as the Edge pumps up the ponies to 60 in level-2. And, a wicked rabbit punch to the Superchips’ jaw from an ungodly 100hp gain. But wait! Superchips just unloaded a wicked uppercut to the tune of 120 horsepower! This fight is far from over!

Round 2: Torque
The Edge comes out from the corner a little hazy, but looking well. Superchips is looking strong, which can be attributed to the late round haymaker that had the Edge wobbling. So far in round 2 the Edge seems to be sticking to his 3-level strategy. The Edge launches a level-1 barrage of torque gains to the tune of 55 ft-lbs; followed by a quick level-2 pivot blow of 145 ft-lbs—oh my, Superchips is staggering! He struggles back to muster up a mighty wallop of 200 ft-lbs torque right into the Edge’s stomach. Wait! What’s this! The Edge just dropped a 220 ft-lbs torque bomb to the jaw; this is not looking good for Superchips.

Round 3: Features
Looking stunned and a little blurry, Superchips seems hesitant to engage the contender. Right away, Edge unleashes a flurry of advanced features. By displaying 4 of over 24 engine parameters at one time, Edge cuts the cheek of Superchips. The champ’s seen worse though. Superchips fires back with optimized shift points, enhanced shift firmness and recalibrated tire size. Edge answers with a back-lit LCD monitor jab to the eye and a dash mounted pod for good measure. Undaunted, Superchips slaps back with a higher top-speed limiter. This round looks to be just about even; each of these fighters come equipped with a gym-locker full of features.

In the end, we had to go to the judges scorecards to decide this battle. The judges have deemed this bout a split decision. By default, the belt stays with the Superchips MAX MicroTuner for longevity’s sake alone. However, the Edge evolution is just as powerful and frankly boasts more features. - David S. Brooks
